Packing lists
Parks Manager keeps a suggested packing list of 29 personal items and 9 shared crew items, sorted into eight categories. New accounts start empty until you opt in.
Once you accept items as defaults, each new trip gets its own copy with the boxes unticked. On that trip you can still rename, drop, or add items without changing the defaults.

What the stock personal list holds
The personal template is what one person carries. The suggested list has 29 items across eight categories: clothes, toiletries, camp, hiking, kitchen, documents, electronics, and first aid.
It is short on purpose. A list long enough to cover every trip is a list nobody reads to the end of, so the suggested version covers the things people actually forget and leaves room for the rest.
| Category | Items |
|---|---|
| Clothes | Hiking shirts, Hiking pants / shorts, Warm layer / fleece, Rain jacket, Underwear, Hiking socks, Sleep clothes, Sun hat |
| Toiletries | Toothbrush / toothpaste, Sunscreen, Bug spray, Medications, Quick-dry towel |
| Camp | Sleeping bag, Sleeping pad, Headlamp + batteries, Camp pillow |
| Hiking | Daypack, Water bottles or reservoir, Hiking boots, Trekking poles |
| Kitchen | Bowl / mug / utensils |
| Documents | Park pass, Photo ID, Reservations, Insurance card |
| Electronics | Phone charger, Power bank |
| First aid | Blister care |
The shared list is the one that gets packed twice
On a shared board the group also gets a crew list of 9 items — the things a party carries once rather than each. Two stoves and no water filter is the classic failure, and splitting the lists is how it gets caught before the trailhead.
Alongside the shared list, each person on a crew trip has their own private checklist. A crew trip holds up to 24 of those, and any single list can run to 80 items.
| Category | Items |
|---|---|
| Camp | Tent / shelter |
| Toiletries | Toilet paper / trowel |
| Hiking | Water filter, Bear spray |
| Kitchen | Stove + fuel, Cook pot, Cooler or bear canister, Food + snacks |
| First aid | First-aid kit |
Editing the template so the next trip starts right
Settings holds your own personal and crew templates, saved against your email address. New accounts start with none. Review suggested items one at a time and add only what you want.
Clearing a template deletes the saved copy. New trips then start empty again, and you can still add or drop items on any one trip under Edit → Pack.
How a list reaches a trip
Creating a trip clones your saved defaults if you have them: new item identifiers, every box unticked. If you have not opted in, the trip starts with no pack list.
A trip whose list is still empty offers to fill from saved defaults on demand, so switching a trip over after the fact takes one action rather than retyping it.
The email that makes the list useful
Seven days before a planned or booked trip starts, Parks Manager emails the trip owner or crew. When a pack list exists, that reminder says so and prompts a check for missing gear while there is still time to buy it.
A packing list found the night before a trip is a list of regrets. A week is enough to order a replacement rain jacket.
What it does not do
This is a checklist, not an inventory system.
- Items carry a label and a category. There are no quantities, no weights, and no per-item notes.
- Assignment is personal versus shared. You cannot hand one item to one named person.
- There is no import or export. A list lives on its trip or in your template.
- A single list caps at 80 items.
Common questions
What is on the Parks Manager stock packing list?
29 personal items across eight categories, from hiking boots and a rain jacket to a headlamp, a park pass, and blister care, plus 9 shared items a group carries once — tent, stove, cook pot, water filter, bear spray, and a first-aid kit among them.
Can everyone in a group have their own packing list?
Yes. A crew trip carries one shared list plus a private list for each person, up to 24 of them, and nobody sees anyone else's ticked boxes.
Does a packing list carry over between trips?
No. Each trip keeps its own copy, so packing one trip never marks another as done. The template in Settings is the part that carries over.
Can I change what a new trip starts with?
Yes. Settings holds a personal template and a crew template against your email address. New trips copy only the items you accepted. On a trip, Edit → Pack still lets you change or remove items for that trip only.
